Team USA

Friday afternoon I went with a guy from work down to Las Vegas

to the Thomas and Mack Center to see Team USA Basketball play Team Canada, before they head off to China.

It was pretty cool to see all the players. It was kind of like an All-Star game in July. You had all the big names there on the court. We bought our tickets a while ago and got on the 11th row behind the team bench.

We set off to get down there and timed it so that we would get there about an hour and a half before tipoff. Wow, we forgot to factor in Vegas traffic. It was Friday at 5 pm in Vegas! Rush hour plus traffic for this event plus it being Vegas on the weekend equals "we ain't making it on time"! In fact we weren't making it for the first half! Oh, and factor in being stuck in a lane of traffic behind a stalled car and another lane behind an accident. All and all it means the first half was over and done with by the time we got there. It took us about 1.5 - 2 hours to go about a mile, maybe a mile and a half.

Here's some pics:

The team warming up and Kobe shooting a free throw

D-Will and Chris Paul chumming it up and Coach K coaching

D-Will getting some advice from Coach K.

In addition to seeing the big names on the court, there were just as many big names off the court. It was fun to people watch. There was Dominique Wilkins, Clyde Drexler, Derek Fisher, Ronny Turiaf, and Chuck Daly. Then you had your performers: Ludacris, Jaime Foxx, Ciara, and Jermaine Dupri. Those were the only ones that we saw. On the radio coming into the game we heard that Bill Gates and Warren Buffett were sitting courtside. But we didn't see them.

In this video I was trying to get Jaime Foxx, Luda, and JD. They are sitting courtside with Foxx in the yellow shirt. D-Will scored and so I got diverted. So pop a few dramamine and enjoy the show.

Just getting the team

More of the team

All and all it was a blast, even if it was for a half. We got to see Dwayne Wade with his windmill dunk and the Jazz players get out on the floor. We got to see Carmelo ball-hog it. Wow that guy shot it every time he touched it, unless it was to try an alley-oop. It was a fun time.

That's cool you got to go down to the game...not so fun with all the traffic. It amazes me that all the "big names" can come together and actually get along well enough to make a good team!
