growing up

my sweetest connor boy,

today you ventured off to your last day of preschool
you woke up excited for the water party {despite your sore throat}
we ate pancakes for breakfast

i will never forget your first day
you began this journey as my shy little 3 year old
no longer my baby boy; you are ready for kindergarten

with a gift for each of your teachers, i dropped you off for the final time
grandma smith greeted you at the door--as she does everyday--with a hug
as i drove away, the tears in my eyes spilled over onto my cheeks
i am so proud of you

my heart is torn into a million pieces today

this journey through preschool has been exactly what i hoped it would be
while i am sad to see it come to an end
i am so happy it all happened.
you are confident. smart. too smart sometimes. funny. and kind.

you are going to do great things.
kindergarten is waiting
in a few short months, preschool will be a distant memory for you
life will be full of new friends, new teachers, and lots of learning

you are going to be great

i love you.
love mom

a little surgery

ever since connor was a little tiny baby {like 3 or 4 months little} he has suffered from ear infections, allergies, sinus infections and more ear infections. in march 2009 he had tubes put in his ears. for the most part they did their job. he had fewer infections than he had pre-tubes--but he still had them. around christmas time one tube fell out. the other tube was out as well and was just sitting in the ear canal doing nothing. fast forward to now...he has been on 4 different antibiotics in the past 8 weeks. sounds fun right. he can now tell me which medicine is his favorite one. awesome. on friday the 13th {in april} i took him in to see the ear, nose, and throat doc. i told him what was going on, had him check out his ears with the microscope and also requested a hearing test. basically, connor has so much fluid in his ears that when they did the pressure test, the result that printed out of the little machine/printer was a flat line, meaning his ear drum was not vibrating. a non-vibrating ear drum=he's not hearing well. for the remainder of the test, he raised his hand when he heard the "chirp" and then repeated some words back to the doc. in the end...connor has some hearing loss. paul and i already sort of thought he did. there was a lot of jibber-jabber from the doc about what we could do blah. blah. blah. then i just spit out the idea of yanking his tonsils! and the deal was done.
yesterday morning at 6:30 we loaded up a sleepy connor into the mini, took the 5 minute drive to the hospital, checked in, played with a child life specialist, put on the tiger nighty and slippy socks, checked vitals, signed paperwork and he was off! the surgery {removing tonsils and adenoids and then replacing tubes in both ears} took about an hour and we were back home by 10 am. all in all connor did fabulous. he told me "when i opened my eyes after the laughing gas, you weren't there and that made me a little nervous." other than that everything else went perfectly. connor was pretty sad for a bit, but as soon as paul got home with meds and a new toy he was back to himself by noon.
we were lucky to have my mom come down to stay with dylan and sam so paul and i could both be at the hospital. my kids love their grammy and i had so much fun hanging out with her! thanks momma!

 post-op with mom
just got the iv taken out--didn't want to see his hand
dressed and waiting to go home.
hanging out at home with is slippy socks
about an hour later this is what he was doing
 back to normal--almost
so happy to see all his hearts from his best friend paige!
thanks paigey, we love you.
pretty sure he'll be going back to school sooner than we planned!
